The Harvard Business Review website published an article on November 26th stating that a study on three vitamins imported by the United States - folic acid (B9), niacinamide (B3), and biotin (B7) - revealed a dependence on imports from China. According to U.S. Customs data, in 2023, folic acid supplied by China accounted for 58% of the total U.S. folic acid imports, up from 42% five years ago. China is the leading producer of synthetic folic acid, with an annual production capacity of about 3,000 tons. China accounts for approximately 78% of the total vitamin imports into the United States. The global market size for niacinamide beauty products is around $559 million, and additionally, China supplies 61.7% of the U.S. market.
